Goldendoodle Grooming: The Complete Owner's Guide

Goldendoodles have a wavy-to-curly low-shedding coat that's wonderful — and high-maintenance. Without regular grooming and at-home brushing, that coat mats quickly, especially during the "coat change" around 6–12 months.

How often

Every 4–6 weeks, plus brushing 3–4× a week at home. During coat change, brush almost daily — this is when most matting (and most surprise shave-downs) happen.

Typical cost

$70–$130+, driven by size and coat condition. A well-maintained coat groomed on schedule stays at the low end; a matted coat means de-matting fees or a shave-down.

Owner tips

Invest in a good slicker brush and a metal comb, and check behind the ears, armpits, and collar area — mats start there. Tell your groomer your preferred length in inches (not just "short"), and book recurring visits to keep the coat manageable and the price predictable.
