Pomeranian Grooming: Styles, Costs & Coat Care

Pomeranians have a fluffy double coat with a dense undercoat and a longer outer coat that gives them their signature pom-pom look. Regular grooming keeps them fluffy and mat-free.

How often

Every 4–8 weeks for a bath, blow-out, tidy, and deshedding. The frequency depends on whether you keep the full fluffy coat or a shorter trim.

Typical cost

Expect $45–$85. Poms are small, but the thick coat takes time to bathe, dry, and deshed properly, which keeps them out of the bargain range.

Popular Pom styles

Go easy on shaving

Like other double-coated breeds, Pomeranians can suffer "post-clipping alopecia," where shaved coat grows back thin, patchy, or not at all. A tidy and deshed is safer than a close shave — talk to your groomer before going short.

Owner tips

Brush 2–3 times a week with a slicker and comb, getting down to the undercoat. Focus on friction areas behind the ears and under the legs where mats hide.
